While years ago, baby showers tended to be strictly for the mom-to-be, her friends and family, many husbands really do like going to a co-ed baby shower with their wives! A baby shower is the time to have fun with friends and celebrate the new little baby, and we believe no one should be excluded!
When inviting men to a baby shower, you will need to switch things up a bit. For most men, the idea of sitting around listening to women talking about ALL the details of their labor just isn’t that fun. Men also tend to tune out a bit while the mom-to-be is opening her gifts (unless he’s the father!).
We wanted to come up with fun party plans that men would enjoy as much as the women. Our guests were all asked to bring their gifts unwrapped, so that there was no break in the day for unwrapping. We set out the gifts on a display table, and everyone was able to check out the gifts and coo over how cute the little booties were as they passed by.
Rather than the traditional tiny cucumber sandwiches, our catering was centered around a taco bar. Not only are tacos always a hit, but it encourages guests to mingle as they customize their meal. For snacks throughout the day, we offered chicken wings with a variety of sauces and had chips and dip placed around the room. Naturally there was guacamole, but we also had cut pitas to dip into hummus and veggies to dip into buttermilk ranch. Besides the food, the alcohol offerings are what guests look forward to as well! The traditional pink and blue cocktails were offered as well as a few different local beer options and mocktails for the mom-to-be and others that weren’t looking to drink.
Most men go running out of the room for the overly cutesy usual baby shower games, so we were tasked with creating more modern games everyone would enjoy. Here are a few of the favorites:
- Guess the Beer in the Baby Bottle – Buy baby bottles and fill them with six different beers. Post a list with the names of the possibilities, and ask guests to guess which is what.
- Baby Picture Game – Ask guests to bring a baby picture of themselves to the party, and then have everyone guess who is who.
- The Price Is Right – Pick 10 items the new parents will need, such as diapers, wipes and burp cloths, and lay them out on a table. Have every guest fill out a sheet with what they think each item costs. Reveal the actual retail prices of the items. Tally up the amounts, and the person who guesses the closest to the final total without going over wins.
- Feeding Time – Give a small spoon and large bib to each person and have them get into teams of two. Each person feeds their teammate a spoonful of “baby food” (you can use applesauce, mashed fruit, or even whipped cream!) – but while both teammates are blindfolded!
